Does anyone know how to make movie theatre popcorn at home?
Q. I recently purchased an oil popper (the old fashioned kettle kind.) When I pop popcorn it doesn't taste anything like the movie theatre. Does anyone know if there's a specific oil or popcorn or topping or a combination of these? Thanks.

Home made movie theatre popcorn?
Q. How can I make homemade popcorn taste like movie theatre popcorn? I have one of those popcorn poppers-the mini versions of a popcorn stand (you know the ones that cost like $40). My movie theatre uses Orville Redenbacher kernels, but what else can I do? And where can I get it?
Asked by Ashley - Tue Oct 28 10:29:16 2008 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Movie theatres use refined coconut oil to pop their popcorn in... they also use the powdered buttersalt flavouring that you can get at places like Bulk Barn. You can use a stainless steel pot (with a lid), some coconut oil, and some buttersalt flavour to make stove-popped popcorn that tastes like it's from the theatre. Also, if you want REALLY authentic stuff, you can sometimes go down to a place like IMAX after a show and get a whole garbage bag of popcorn for nothing. They have to make fresh popcorn for each show - so if they have leftovers, they just throw it away anyway. Tell them you're having a big party and you're willing to negotiate a discounted price. They'll usually tell you to keep your money.

Do you ever go to the movie theatre JUST for the popcorn?
Q. I'm really craving some movie popcorn right now. I'm even going to sit through that Paranormal Activity just to eat some. And I HATE scary movies. And I'm NOT paying that much for a movie just for the popcorn. I'm going to sit through that thing if it kills me.

movie theatre popcorn for popcorn maker?
Q. Just received a small kettle type popcorn maker and need the stuff to make the popcorn like you get in the movie theaters. I think they add a special mix to get what you get in the movie theaters but can't find the exact links...anyone have one of these 'real' movie theater popcorn makers and know where to get the supplies? Thanks! no my popcorn here is popped at the movie. I'm not in the ghetto where they ship it in bags lol. :)
Asked by supadupa - Tue Jul 10 01:23:00 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, I have one and order the supplies regularly. Go to: popcornpopper.com Don't order the theater packs, I did start with those, but it is cheaper to buy the oil and the seasonings separately. You need to buy the theater popping oil, just the original, and the theater spice popcorn salt. Buy the popcorn at home, it is the same. When putting the oil in the popper, just put enough to cover the bottom of the popper, maybe a teeny bit more. Even though it says to add the salt AFTER, I mix it in with the oil, then I don't need to salt it. I am a HUGE theater popcorn lover...and this is IT. If you need more info from me, e-mail me here in yahoo. I will help you.

How long does movie theatre popcorn last?
Q. Last weekend I ordered a large popcorn and loaded it with butter and salt at the movie theatre. I have almost the whole thing still saved in my car. Now initially I think back to the tubs of popcorn you get at christmas with the three different kinds. It seems you can snack on that all year. But I don't know if there are any preservatives in that which make it different from my popcorn. Then I started thinking about the butter. Could it spoil or mold? So you think my popcorn from last Saturday (its the following Friday now) is still good and safe to eat?

What kind of Movie theater popcorn butter is the best?
Q. I love movie theater popcorn because of the extra buttery topping. I would like to buy some but I don't know which kind (brand) to buy. If anyone works at a theater knows what brand they use, I would appreciate it, or if you have tried different brands, which one is the best? I don't have one of those dispensers, but would it work out the same if I just microwave it to warm it up?

A. Get the Orville Redenbaucher (however you spell it) pour over butter. It's not popcorn, its just straight up popcorn butter you pour over your popcorn, well, it's butter flavored oil. You can put as much or as little as you want, I prefer to drown my popcorn in it, but it's not really good for you.

Why can't I ever recreat the taste of real movie theater popcorn?
Q. I have tried everything, including melting my own butter to pour over popcorn and trying prepackaged "movie theater butter" popcorn packs. Nothing tasts as good as the movie theater popcorn with their hot butter! Why is this? Do they use a special kind of butter or kernals? Is it the way they pop it? Any insight is appreciated!

Movie Theatre Popcorn???
Q. Butter or no butter? I say the butter makes the popcorn too oily!!! And Landmark Theatre on W. Gray in Houston, TX has the best tasting in the world.

A. no butter - i used to work at a movie theater and the "butter" was just yellow butter-flavored lard and it was hardened and then melted to fit into the dispenser. It was the most disgusting thing on earth.

How do I clean a movie theater popcorn popper?
Q. I work at an AMC theater and one of my duties sometimes is cleaning the popcorn popper. Unfortunately I'm a little unsure about how to do it and if I ask for help again my coworkers probably won't be too happy. Can someone give me step-by-step instructions? I know there's know way to know if the popper you use and the one I use are the same, but I doubt the differences will be too major, so if I encounter them, I can work around them.

A. buy the "butter flavoring" oil. it's in a bottle (looks like a bottle of canola oil) sold with the popcorn kernels at your local grocery store. usually it's orville redenbacher! here's a picture... lol, it's hours later and... as i was reading a magazine i came across an add for popcorn seasonings and thought of this post. they have different flavored 'seasonings/sprinkles', but they also have movie theater butter flavor popping/topping oil and 'spritzer. looks like you can get it at walmart. here's their website: Kernel Seasons
