How do I contest a speeding ticket in court?
Q. I got a speeding ticket today, which is really depressing because generally I try really hard not to speed. I want to contest it in court, and I read that the first step is to request the officer's presence. How do I do this? I also read that the best way to get your ticket dismissed is to request documents of proof from the officer, because most likely he will not have them. What documents are these? Any other tips to contest a speeding ticket? Thanks!!!

A. You should demand a jury trial and file a Motion for Discovery with the Clerk of Court ... the prosecution will probably not comply, and you will have to demand a court hearing and convince the judge, as for: 1) the officer's logs (audio, video, and written), 2) copies of the citation (front and back), 3) the names of any witnesses (ie: who is the police officer), 4) all information relating to the officer's training, who trained him, when, 5) all information relating to maintenance logs of the radar device, 6) the serial numbers of any tuning forks used, and when the device was tuned, 7) how frequently does the officer engage in speeding citations (if this is routine for him, you can argue at court that he probably doesn't follow all the… [cont.]

Can I argue a speeding ticket in court due to an incorrect year of violation?
Q. I received a speeding ticket and the officer wrote down the wrong date completely (day/month AND YEAR!). I plead not guilty because I was not present in the county on that date, in that year the ticket states. I understand officers can make minor mistakes on tickets, but it was June 2007 and he wrote it for 2006. I now have a court date set for next month. What sort of argument or style should I use with a Mississippi Judge to argue this? Any tips will help! A. You are out of state. strike 1. 20 over you are lucky you only got a ticket. It takes time to process yes. You should have a court date on the ticket. Your insurance will go up. Out of state speeding is brutal. I live in N. Louisiana. I got a ticket for going 55 in a 45 and it cost me $175.

How much is a speeding ticket in California?
Q. I got a speeding ticket in LA county for doing 80 in a 65mph zone. This is technically my 8th offense, but I have gotten only 2 speeding tickets in the past two years (not all 7 other tickets were done within a year, I've gotten them over a long period of time). How much would my ticket cost me? I know I found out that they charge $20 more for each offense you have within 36 months.
Asked by Shooting Star - Sat Nov 28 17:39:10 2009 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments
A. According to the California Uniform Bail Schedule, the total amount for a violation of CVC 22349, 22350 or 22351 for 15mph over is $211 which includes the total bail of $146 plus the $65 court security and conviction assessment. The previous convictions won't affect the fine but could affect your license depending on how many points you have already. If you want to pay it, go ahead but there are ways to fight it especially if you were paced. It takes a lot of work and is a bit complicated but if you want to know about it, update here and I'll give you the info. It just takes a while to write and I want to be sure it is read. I'll check back for the update.

A. it varies from state to state but with a plus 15 mph speeding ticket and one for having no license with you, i'd guess you're looking at several hundred bucks, my guess is $335. Just a guess. Be thankful--in some states they would probably tow your vehicle.

How do you fight a speeding ticket, when you know you were speeding?
Q. Do you have to plead not guilty? Just got my second speeding ticket within a year, and afraid of all the points and insurance increases. Do you have to say you weren't speeding? Any suggestions? What does it mean to plead No Contest, and what is likely to happen? By the way, i have been driving slower, but was having a bad day. Thank you, Adam. I am in NJ, and I thought that was how it worked! Most of the rest of you suck - I hope you make a mistake someday.

What happens if you get a speeding ticket for driving over 30 mph in Illinois?
Q. What happens if you get a speeding ticket for driving over 30 mph in Illinois? The speed was 83 in a 45 and got a ticket for a court date. What type of fine will there be? Money and community service?
Asked by eclipse - Mon Mar 9 12:51:42 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When you hit 40mph over the limit in Illinois it's a misdemeanor, the 38mph you were traveling over the limit qualifies you for a regular speeding ticket but not any jail time. Expect a really heavy fine and some community service. (625 ILCS 5/11-601.5) Sec. 11-601.5. Driving 40 miles per hour or more in excess of applicable limit. A person who drives a vehicle upon any highway of this State at a speed that is 40 miles per hour or more in excess of the applicable maximum speed limit established under this Chapter or a local ordinance commits a Class A misdemeanor. (Source: P.A. 91-469, eff. 1-1-00.)

A. they wont find out if its your own insurance. if not, they will find out. it depends how it affects your insurance. how fast were you going? what kind of insurance do you have? do you have previous incidents? whichever it is, the insurance will go up. break it to your parents before the next premium comes in.

A. Be sure to look into traffic violator school. In Calif. you may take this online course once every year and a half. While you may still have to pay the ticket, it won't appear on your driving record.

Go to the assigned courtroom on your second date of appearance. 4. The prosecutor will give you a choice to reduce your ticket to a non-moving violation for a fee. 5. A. Call your local DMV. Ky does report to other states on CDL violations. They also work with Tenn on insurance/no insurance accidents. There is a good chance they also do on regular tickets as well.

Q. My friend is on a probation because of speeding. And just couple months before his probation was up he has just gotten another one. He paid the ticket right off. What's going to happen? Will they suspend his driver's licence?

Can I get away with a speeding ticket if the officer provided a false location?
Q. I was pulled over for speeding 77 in a 45. But I know I know I wasn't going that fast. The cop wrote down 77 in a 50. But, he gave a false location that appears doesn't exist. Can I get the ticket voided for this?

A. This is a recurring question in YA. Minor errors will not get a ticket voided in 999 out of 1000 cases. (Every once in awhile you might get lucky and get a Judge on a day that he happens to be upset with the Police.) What is a minor error? A minor error is something that does not alter the factual basis of the stop or the citation. In this case, you were cited for going 77. Whether the speed limit was 45 or 50 doesn't change the fact that you were driving in excess of the posted limit; the only thing that matters is how MUCH in excess. If that seems obtuse, look at it this way: If you were cited for going 82, but you said - 'The officer was wrong. I was only going 77.' The judge would say, '77 is still speeding. Guilty.' You… [cont.]

Can I pay a speeding ticket through the mail?
Q. I got a photo radar speeding ticket. Thats the kind where they have camera's set up to take pictures of your speeding car and noting the license plate. They then send you the picture along with the fine amount. The fine is $150 so I am planning on taking a picture of three $50 bills with my polaroid instant camera and sending them that. Would that work?

A. I would suggest that you do something better than taking pictures of money with your Polaroid camera. Nobody makes Polaroid camera film any more, and since Tom Petters was indicted on various money laundering schemes, he just plunged the new Polaroid Corporation into bankruptcy again. If you need to take pictures of something with your instant camera, take a picture of something worthwhile.
