how do hud determined the amount of a housing choice voucher for a family of three?
Q. How do Housing Authorities determine the amount of your housing choice voucher? I am a family of three, two boys 1 and 11.
Asked by catertoyouhairservice - Sat Jun 28 10:49:21 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You will receive a voucher for a 2 bedroom home/apartment. The amount of the voucher is actually determined by the address of who will rent to you, it is not a set amount. HUD assigns the rental amount to the landlord. You pay 1/3 of your total income (job and child support) to rent, HUD picks up the rest, how ever much that might be.

A. What a great idea, I wish my kids would think off that. Unfortunately there are very few airlines, especially, in the USA that offer them. Even if you can find an airline, and I tried, the restrictions placed on the use of them, even the vouchers offered as compensation by the airlines themselves make them virtually unusable. Try Goggling flight voucher to see what I mean. Rather than a flight voucher that would tie you to a specific airline and their destinations and timetables. Get them a travel agents voucher. I am sure that your usual travel agent would be more than willing to accept your money in exchange for a gift voucher that your parents could use to book a flight / trip / holiday of their choice. It's really the same thing, but… [cont.]

A. Many of the helping hand agencies use vouchers to distribute goods & services so that their employees & volunteers cannot steal them for themselves. The voucher is issued in the name of the person ("client") & when they take the voucher into the appropiate store or agency & show a photo identification card or drivers license, then they can receive the items they were sent there to pick up. Most are for clothing, food, & certain services...like assistence doing laundry. In my area, a senior cannot receive food from the gleaners unless they have contacted the social security department & spoken to a worker who telephones the food pantry with your name & social security #. Then, when you go to pick up your food...you need to show your… [cont.]

Should your country also issue free shopping voucher to citizens in order to improve the economy?
Q. Taiwan government issued free shopping voucher to each of their citizen to improve their economy which is based on a similar scheme in Japan in 1999. Do you think your country should do the same too? why or why not?

A. Japan is going to do it again; and I heard the US did it with the last income tax season. I think it's kind of a token effort; I don't know if it really will help. It was kind of fun to have "free money" (even though it was really our money to begin with), but we had to buy in our local township, which meant there wasn't a lot of choices as to stores and things. One idea I've heard is that we should buy things for our favorite charities, and fund the things we want funded with that. I don't think it really provided a lot of economic stimulus, but it does make people feel happy. I really can't say . . . but I do wish the government would put the money into schools instead. Or funding alternate energy.

Q. Has anyone heard of a School Voucher. This is susposed to enable you to send your child to a school of your choosing and the Government will pay just like they are going to the public school in their area. I don't have this in my area. How do I go about getting it. Are they really out there. Help!! I need to know how to go about getting vouchers for my kids so that they can go to private school that has really helped with their education. The public schools weren't help, my kids could not read. If there is something our there that will help me keep them in this school, I really need the help. Can't afford tuition any longer PS I live in the Zanesville, Ohio area

A. I would call your local board of education to see if they are available in your district. If your school is a NCLB title 1 school(40% of kids get free lunch) then you will have the option to enroll your child in another public school that is meeting or exceeding the state standards in reading and math. This is only if your school is failing. They will provide bus transportation to and from school(public school only).I have heard of school vouchers but they were for only for severe at risk children particularly homeless children plus they were only temporary until they found a placement at other schools.I live in Chicago and the school vouchers were implemented in 1998 but soon died out because of all the red tape.25,000 parents applied but… [cont.]

A. your payment goes to line 65 of form 1040 - you subtract it from line 63 "total tax" - your ES payment will decrease your total tax liability.

A. A GOS 3 voucher will be issued by your optician to you when you have an eye test under the NHS. There are a few instances when this can be issued. These are: - if you are under 16 - you are 16, 17 or 18 and still in fulltime education - jobseekers, income support, working family tax credit, pension guarantee credit - named on a valid HC2 form - registered partially sighted or blind - complex prescription (i.e. greater than 10)

How are taxes calculated when winning a trip or a travel voucher (in the U.S.)?
Q. My grandma won a $12,500 (ARV) travel voucher and wants to sell it because she needs the money more than she needs to see the world. I know that the tax rate is based on fair market value (FMV) rather than approximate retail value (ARV), so if she used it, I believe it would be based on the amount she used. If she sells it though, would she only pay taxes on how much money she got for it, or on the full amount of the voucher? Please only post if you can provide an educated guess. Thanks in advance!
Asked by Susie - Fri Jun 1 22:12:45 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many times companies grossly inflate the value of prizes or awards. That is why the tax code and existing case law provide that the FMV of the item determines its tax basis, not the inflated value set by the publicity-hungry companies. Those companies get to deduct NOT the ARV but only the actual cost of the item as recorded on their books, without regard to its retail FMV or ARV. If your Grandma sells the voucher by advertising for a best offer deal, save the add and attach it to her tax return. Declare the full amount of the 1099 on her return and then take a negative "other income" entry to offset the difference; next to the line write "see attached statement." Explain why it is you are taking exception to the 1099. I have done… [cont.]

A. HI, If at any time you're asked for the following: full name:___ residential address:___ occupation:___ nationality:___ present country:___ AGE:___ SEX:___ telephone number:___ It's a scam!!! Do not reply whatever you do. Stay as far away as you can! If to receive anything saying you won something, but yet you never entered the compatition or sweepstake to start with, then it's a scam! Be careful. If your asked to give any money away to receive bigger money prices, or goods, it a scam! Ask yourself: Who is Clearinghouse? Do I subscribe to them? If not, how did they get my information (address, email address)? Why would they send me a voucher? I hope this helps :)
